This month, meet Rebecca, one half of our duplicate records team! 

How long have you been with the Yoga District team?

I have been a team member of Yoga District since October 2020, but I have attended classes at Yoga District for years now. 

What do you like best about volunteering with Yoga District?

Yoga District really works with you so that your voice, needs, and opinions not only matter but are heard. It’s clear that their mission is not only front-facing but is embedded throughout the organization.

When you’re not working with the Community Care Team, how are you spending your time?

You can find me laying out in my hammock with a podcast, a good book, or sipping on a cocktail. I am also a big people watcher. My best friend and I can spend hours just outside doing just that. I say it’s my inner sociologist coming out. 

What is your favorite yoga class at YD and why is it your favorite?

I haven’t had the chance to attend a class in some time, but the restorative yoga classes were always my favorites. Especially pre-pandemic I was always on the go. Those classes really helped me to not only slow down but reconnect with my body. I found beauty and power in rest. Our bodies deserve or need a break and a moment to restore.

What is your favorite way to practice self-care right now?

My favorite way to practice self-care is to slow down and spend intentional time with myself. Whether I’m writing, listening to one of my favorite podcasts, or just sitting in my thoughts, I have learned to appreciate all that those moments can bring. I have also been spending a lot of time outside. It’s wild how much you can learn and see from just unplugging and listening to the sounds around you.

If you had to describe your life in the form of a yoga pose, which pose would it be?

My life described in the form of a yoga pose would probably be the garland (Malasana) pose (1). I am constantly going back to this pose. In the middle of watching a tv show or mid-conversation, I plop right into it. Right now, I am in the stage of my life where I am trying to lean into comfort and open up. This pose is a reminder that everything else falls into place when I take care of myself by focusing on aligning myself.

What is a lesson that you’ve learned from your practice?

I can always come back to my practice. Yoga has helped me come back into my body. It is a reminder that at times just showing up is enough. It has also taught me that as I grow and change so will my practice. I don’t have to limit myself to one type of flow but to challenge myself by literally going with the flow.
